On-line Drama Launch

Launch of Wales’s first complete On-line Drama Series by Cyfle, in association with Glass Shot: Tuesday, 12 May 2009

"Break Free" is a 12 episode On-line Drama which will launch across various internet sites on Tuesday, 12 May 2009. Written by six freelance workers on the Cyfle Writing for Multi- platform scheme, the groundbreaking pilot will have its own YouTube channel accompanied by a whole stimulating package of Multi-platform elements – including MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and Blogs.

The launch comes half way through the innovative, six month, part-time training scheme which allows six of the best writers and producers in Wales to develop their screenwriting skills to the On-line World. It consists of an unique combination of weekend workshops, expert speakers, on-line mentoring and collaborative projects. Trainees include Sophie Fante (Torchwood, Belonging), Jon Treganna (Cowbois ac Injans, The Bench), Rhiannon Cousins (winner of S4C’s 20th Anniversary script competition), Bethan Marlow (bursary winner of 24 degrees scheme BBC/Royal Court) and Branwen Davies (Caerdydd, Eisteddfod Drama winner), Sian Harries (comedy writer for Radio 1 & 2). And the cast of "Break Free" includes Welsh Bafta Nominated Shelley Rees & Amy Starling (Nuts & Bolts).

"Break Free" is an English language drama which is produced by Gruffudd Jones & Rhys Miles Thomas of Glass Shot – the Multi-platform Creative Company, and it is expected to pave the way for future Welsh language on-line dramas. This scheme is supported by the Skillset TV Freelance Fund and DCELLS. Post Production is being done with the kind support of Barcud Derwen.

"Break Free" Synopsis

A wannabee Guru, spots a gap in the market, and set up a Personal Development Course – "I can unlock your chains and give you a place back in Society."

He really believes that through his esoteric attitude, and his Self-Help Book for Dummies, he can perform Miracles! (kind of...)

He sets up a 6 week course, and sends his publicity materials out.

6 people attend the course – some have chosen to be there, some haven’t – all have an "issue".

For example - There’s a Simone who’s obsessed with her "baby" the dog, Gideon a 23yr old virgin who’s desperate to have sex and Leigh-Ann a 42 yr old bored housewife who’s obsessed with cybersex.

Our Guru takes them all on a journey of discovery – from activity days, group therapy, trust exercises, sharing, caring, revealing all.

The 6 participants will laugh, cry, make friends and enemies with the aim of getting stronger or just surviving. Will anyone get through the course in one piece?
